Analytical prediction of ground movements due to circular shaft construction in clayey soils

چکیده

With the rapid expansion of urbanization, shafts are needed to provide access tunnelling projects or be utilized for permanent works. Their construction causes ground movements, affecting nearby foundations and buried infrastructure. This study presents an analytical equivalent volume loss approach predicting three-dimensional movements resulting from a circular shaft construction: namely, losses in elastic isotropic half space as sequence cavity contractions around employed. First, applicability accuracy proposed solutions evaluated with published case studies centrifuge tests. Thereafter, method is employed investigate influence on surface subsurface soil displacements. Considering design losses, this allows quick estimations deformations associated risk serviceability losses.
